Give and Serve
Have you ever noticed the impact of a small act of kindness?
Give someone a genuine compliment, and you lift them up. You may not even realize it, but they carry new positive energy to the next person they see. It can have an incredible ripple effect!
Taking time for others helps us take the focus off ourselves and our own challenges and allows us to bring joy to others. And science shows this may also cause you to feel happier.
In a study, half the people were asked to track their acts of kindness. After just one week, they felt significantly happier. They also had the benefit of feeling less stressed.
Given these results why wouldn’t we give and serve more often?
Imagine if we made a point to do one small thing each day for another person. What impact do you think that would have?
Here are some examples:
- Give your coworker a heart-felt compliment
- Support a person who is experiencing a tough life challenge
- Let a stranger go ahead of you in line at the grocery store
- Volunteer in your community
- Offer to help a co-worker
- Say hello and offer a smile to a stranger or receptionist
You might be thinking, “My life is busy with so many obligations; I don’t have the time to volunteer” or, “What can I do that would help someone else?”
The good news is that sometimes the biggest thing we can do in any day is simply a small act of kindness. And don’t we all have time for that?
